Student artists to brighten downtown windows for holidays

The Madison Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Madison Arts and Culture Alliance (MACA), is offering “Holiday Window Painting” to downtown Madison merchants, by Drew University and Madison High School art students.

The high school students will receive community service credits for the program to support the downtown business district.

The students have been asked to provide sample drawings and borders merchants may choose from, or merchants can submit their own ideas.

Main Street Executive Director James Burnet noted, “This will not compete with your window display, but help to enhance it.”

The students, under the direction of their teacher, will work individually with each business that would like to collaborate on a design.

“The window painting will help tie in all the stores and create a beautiful and festive atmosphere throughout our business district for the holidays,” Burnet added.

“We would like all stores completed by the Madison Christmas Walk and Parade, which is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 27, and just in time for the holiday season.”

The fee for the program is $10 for Chamber of Commerce members and $40 for non-members, and will help cover the costs of supplies.

To ensure participation, advance payment is required. Merchants should make checks payable to: Madison Arts and Culture Alliance, and mail them to the Madison Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 152, Madison, N.J. 07940.
