Chatham HS raises funds for Haiti
Chatham High School teachers Nicole Avery, Kellie Burns and Andrea Schechter, with help from CHS Vice Principal Lori Gironda, mobilized the students and staff to send a hefty donation to the Red Cross to aid Haiti.
Avery, Red Cross Club adviser, organized a teacher "dress-down day" during which teachers could pay $5 each to be permitted to wear jeans to school for the day.
Sophomore Class advisers Burns and Schechter, with the help of Gironda, organized a multiday, schoolwide bake sale. Individual staff, students and the student organizations of CHS contributed each day of the bake sale, and the sales were run by representatives of each student organization, including student leaders and staff advisers.
Students and staff also were able to donate during lunch times. The total donation given to the Red Cross, including the dress-down day, the bake sale earnings, a Pep Club donation and individual donations totaled $3,200.
